Sumario:This article reports a study on the impact of music lessons (Indian raaga music) with self-practice and assessment components delivered to dyads of Indian mothers-children with learning disabilities (aged 10–13-years) on mother–child relationship and children's academic performance compared to music lessons without self-practice and assessment. The music lessons with self-practice and assessment components were more effective and particularly so for female children with learning disabilities, whose mothers had postgraduate or professional degrees, mother-child dyads with higher attendance and self-practice compliance, dyads who mastered all seven notes-three octaves along with dual-triple-quadruple permutations and combinations, learnt and mastered details of at least two raagas, memorised and mastered at least two compositions, and dyads who attempted rhythm and melody-based improvisations on the compositions at least once and up to more than five times through the lessons. Dyadic music lessons in a non-clinical setting can be effective in reducing conflicts, dependence, and improving relationships between mothers and their children with learning disabilities as well as enhance children's academic performance.
