| Sumario: | The article discusses Responsiveness to Intervention (RTI), an approach to early intervention and a way to identify disability. RTI is an integration of assessment and intervention to prevent school failure and its consequences of incarceration, poor health, and unemployment. This article attempts to establish a common vocabulary for thinking and communicating about RTI by explaining primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. Primary prevention involves the instructional practices that most classroom teachers use with all students. Secondary prevention involves small-group tutoring and the identification of pupils with a disability. Tertiary prevention is the intensive, non-standard instruction for those identified with a disability.
