Sumario:The article looks at the impact cell phone applications (apps) are having on the promotional tactics of Hollywood film studios. The author discusses how the software manufacturer Ashton-Tate invented the word app in 1985 to describe the individual functions of their word-processing software, Framework II. Additional topics discussed include the apps created for the films "Incecption" and "The Dark Knight," how film apps often mimic DVD extras, and how Warner Bros. film studio is attempting to use apps as a means to further engage audiences.
